The 6-digit code

Your friend texts: a code went to you by mistake, can you send it over? If you do, you lose your account.

Round one. Usually it's not your friend writing, it's their stolen account.

In short

If a friend writes "I sent you a code by mistake", that code is your WhatsApp registration code; sharing it moves your account to another phone. Defense: turn on Settings > Account > Two-step verification and never share the code.

Today's script

Your friend texts: a code went to you by mistake, can you send it over? If you do, you lose your account. Round one. Usually it's not your friend writing, it's their stolen account. That code is the WhatsApp registration code for your number. Whoever gets it sets up your account on their own phone. Say you sent the code. The hacker gets into your account and sends the same message to your contacts. The defense: two-step verification. If it's on, the code isn't enough on its own. Your password is needed too. WhatsApp is replacing the 6-digit PIN with a password. At least 8 characters, letters and numbers. I turned it on in my own WhatsApp. It took one minute. Settings, Account, Two-step verification. One rule: never give this code to anyone. Send this video to your family group. Tomorrow: 6 lines of code on screen. Can you find the bug in 10 seconds?
